This piece for brass ensemble was commissioned by the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Brass Ensemble, directed by Brad Siroky. When we think of cities, we often conjure up numerous vivid and aggrandizing characteristics — intoxicating, thrilling, overwhelming, inspiring, diverse, extreme . . . It is exactly these attributes that sparked the writing of this piece, and will surely motivate any brass ensemble to bring this music to life.
The piece begins with an old fashioned broadway-style opening, and immediately bolts forward, depicting the constant fast paced movement of the city, moving on to a more lyrical section, showcasing the sites and wonders of the city that often attract tourists, and finishing with a
Latin-feel section, showcasing the excitement the city has to offer.
